Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) helps individuals accept their thoughts and feelings while committing to actions aligned with their values. It emphasizes mindfulness, acceptance, and behavior change to promote psychological flexibility and improve overall well-being.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) focuses on identifying and changing negative thought patterns and behaviors. It helps individuals understand how thoughts influence feelings and actions, offering practical strategies to challenge and reframe unhelpful beliefs. CBT aims to alleviate distress and promote healthier coping skills for long-term well-being.
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) combines cognitive and behavioral techniques with mindfulness practices. It helps individuals manage intense emotions, improve relationships, and develop coping skills. DBT emphasizes acceptance of oneself while striving for change, offering strategies to balance acceptance and change for effective emotional regulation and personal growth.
Schema Therapy
Schema Therapy integrates cognitive-behavioral techniques with attachment theory and psychodynamic concepts. It focuses on identifying and changing deeply ingrained, maladaptive patterns or schemas. Through empathetic exploration and experiential techniques, it aims to heal emotional wounds, promote self-awareness, and foster healthier relational patterns for lasting emotional well-being.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
Mindfulness-Based Therapy cultivates present moment awareness through meditation and mindfulness practices. It helps individuals observe thoughts and emotions without judgment, fostering self-compassion and reducing stress. By cultivating mindfulness, it enhances emotional regulation, resilience, and overall well-being, promoting a deeper connection with oneself and others.

Tanya Swift
Psychologist
About Tanya
As a frontline responder, a veteran, or as an individual experiencing trauma, a victim of crime, or suffering suicidal ideation, I have a unique set of skills and insight that you may find helpful. Prior to becoming a psychologist, I was an Australian Federal Police officer, for 31 years. I worked alongside Queensland Police, other police services across the world, ambulance services, firies, and our Defence personnel in Afghanistan.
I was a nurse prior to joining the AFP. I was driven to psychology through my role as a police negotiator and through witnessing the adverse impact of what we do on too many and their mental health.
Therapeutic Approaches
- Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR, gaining full membership with EMDRAA)
- Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
- Compassioned Focused Therapy
- Utilises aspects of Solutions Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness
Areas of Practice
As a result of the journey outlined above, my desire was to train and specialise in assisting front-line workers (police, ambulance, nurses, doctors, firies), members of our defence force (civilian and serving), victims of crime, or anyone who is burdened with carrying the heavy scars of trauma. I also work extensively with those suffering from Depressive, Anxious, Panic, Stress, PTSD, C-PTSD, ADHD, Autism, FASD, Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective, Psychosis, and Bipolar symptoms; workcover clients, NDIS, and with the QPS Self Refer Program.

Psychological assessments
At EskPsych, it is our mission to provide quality services, in a timely and accessible manner.
We offer a variety of assessments such as needed for your education, career and mental health. To book in for an assessment, or if you are unsure whether or not an assessment is suitable for you, please contact us.
What is an assessment?
An assessment typically involves the conduct of a clinical interview (initial interview to determine nature of concerns or purpose of assessment), followed by administration of a purposively selected test battery which is administered by one of our psychologists. These assessments are generally completed by the psychologist and client in-person; however, some assessments may require input from family members, teachers, support workers and others.
Why should i do an assessment?
An assessment is useful for a variety of reasons. Assessments can be relatively brief and may serve to inform treatment plans for therapy. In other situations, such as an educational assessment, assessments may be more complex and will require the administration of several tests. For example, typically an educational assessment includes tests of ability as well as achievement.
To determine the assessments required, an initial interview with the client (and parent for child clients) will be conducted in order to tailor the assessment requirements to the individual’s needs.
After the assessment(s) is completed, psychologists score and interpret results and write a report which provides an overview of findings along with recommendations. A feedback session is held in order to convey the results in an understandable manner.
How much do assessments cost?
The cost of assessment depends on which assessment you require, and the length of time taken to complete it. As each assessment is tailored to unique needs, an individualised quote is provided following the initial clinical interview when individual needs are assessed.
Assessments are not eligible for rebates. For some assessments or reports, we may able to offer a payment arrangement, such as pay-as-you-go. In all instances, we require the full balance of the assessment to be paid before we release the report.
Please contact us for further information.
